REQUIREMENTS TO ADOPT
If you are interested in adopting an animal you will need to complete an Adoption Application. You must be 18 or older or have your parents present at the time of adoption. To help us make your adoption experience not only pleasant, but quicker and easier please provide us with the following information:
- Legal ID with your current address
- Verification of home ownership; for example a tax bill
- A letter of permission from your landlord, along with a contact phone number.
- Veterinary records or a letter of recommendation from your veterinarian
- At minimum, proof of state mandated rabies vaccination.
Please understand we cannot place a hold on any adoptable animal without the above documentation and an approved application.
When completing your adoption application you will be asked to provide a photo ID. A drivers license is preferable. If your drivers license does not reflect your current address, then you will need to bring some kind of bill/statement which has your current address on it.
Once all your paperwork is complete, we will review your application, verify your information, check your reference and if all is in order your application will be approved.
All animals are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, this may delay taking your adopted animal home. If your new pet is not currently altered then she/he will then be scheduled for spaying/neutering the next day we have a veterinarian scheduled. You should be able to pick up your pet within several days. If there will be a delay, you will receive a phone call from a staff member or be made aware at the time of adoption. All adoption related expense will be due in full at the time of adoptions.
HELPFUL HINTS:
When choosing a dog in a household where there is an existing dog, you will be asked to bring them in for a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in adopting. It is best to do this in a neutral environment, such as the shelter. If you have children we do urge you to bring them along to make sure the pet will do well with them. Pet allergies are common, please let the staff know if you suffer from pet allergies and we will direct you to the breeds which may have less effect on people with allergies.
